The IdeaPad K1 is aimed at everyday tablet users. It uses NVIDIA’s 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and has 1GB RAM, a 1280 x 800 resolution, 10.1″ display, and will be available with 16GB, 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The tablet has two cameras, a 5 megapixel on the rear and a 2 megapixel on the front, plus there is a microSD card slot and a micro-HDMI port on the chassis.
It’ll use Android Honeycomb 3.1 and will obviously compete with the myriad other Android tablets already on sale or expected soon. Plus, anyone looking at buying a tablet will almost certainly be considering the iPad 2; so Lenovo is entering a very crowded consumer market. To sweeten the deal, Lenovo will be including around 40 pre-installed apps from the likes of Rovio, Electronic Arts, Amazon and DataViz.
Next is the ThinkPad Tablet, which shares an almost identical spec to the K1, but is aimed at business users thanks to features including remote wipe and virtual VPN support, plus software such as Lotus Notes Traveller. A stylus will also be available for ‘writing’ on the screen.
Finally we have the ThinkPad Tablet P1, which uses an Intel 1.5GHz processor and runs Microsoft Windows 7 software. The screen is the same size and resolution as the K1 and ThinkPad Tablet, but it only has a single 2 megapixel camera.
The K1 is expected to launch in the UK during August for £369, while the ThinkPad Tablet will follow in September for £399. There’s no word on the P1 yet though, although a Q4 US launch is expected.
