Infosys employee to take company to court over visa misuse

Infosys has come under the legal scanner over visa scam. Insiders revealed that a US employee has decided to take Infosys to the court alleging the company for visa fraud. The employee, Jack Palmer has refused to go for an out-of-court settlement.

Couple of month back, Jack Palmer, who has been working with the company as a principal consultant since August 2008, has filed a lawsuit against Infosys alleging visa and tax fraud. He alleged that the company was sending employees on B1 visas to work full time in the US, though the visa is only meant for visitors who come for meetings and business negotiations.

Palmer decided to take Infosys to court after the company said that Palmer’s allegations about the company's use of B1 visas are false and overstated.

The US is the most vital market for Infosys from where it gets over 60 per cent of its revenues.

After the visa limitations in the US, it is hard as well as pricey, to obtain H-1B visas to send employees to the US for work. Therefore, it is reported that many Indian companies are sending employees to the US with B1 visas, which are basically meant for those who visit the country for conferences and business meetings.
