For fierce fans of Bollywood big shots in town for the IIFA awards, milling about in the lobby of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel waiting to catch a glimpse of their favourite star is exciting.
For hotel guests and security, it’s a bit of a headache.
The posh lobby of the hotel in downtown Toronto has been crowded for the past couple of days.
It’s the home base for IIFA and where many of the actors are staying.
Hotel guests with no connection to IIFA have had to put up with the screaming crowds of people dying to get an autograph from Anil Kapoor.
“This is insane,” muttered one guest, who declined to give his name, as he pushed through the crowds snapping photos of actor Gulshan Grover on Friday.
Around 2:45 p.m., security in the hotel decided to clear the lobby of anyone who wasn’t a guest of the hotel.
“Are you staying here?” one beefy security guard asked a couple of teenagers. They shook their heads.
“Then you gotta go,” he said.
