Vidya raises her fee for ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects 2

Vidya Balan has always been considered a good actor and post the craze over Dirty Picture, offers have been pouring in left, right and centre. It is only natural for the actor to up her price. But we hear this hasn’t gone down well with Pritish Nandy Communications who approached the actor for the sequel of Pyaar Ke Side Effects. Well we wonder what’s wrong with that. Didn’t Kareena Kapoor raise her price after Jab We Met and RA.One, didn’t Ranbir Kapoor do the same after the success of Rockstar? Then why not Vidya? In this industry, that’s exactly how the cookie crumbles. Didn’t the production house know that already? The actor who has been approached to play Vidya’s love interest in the sequel is Farhan Akhtar. He has already read the script and given a verbal nod to the project. However, the price Vidya is quoting is reportedly more than what the makers are offering Farhan. That is another hurdle that no one has figured out how to cross. Farhan and Vidya have never been paired together before; while this seems like an unusual pairing we hope the script will do enough justice to the duo. Earlier, when news of Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat acting together in Pyaar Ke Side Effects had come out, there were speculations on whether the pairing would work or not but the film and their chemistry rocked the box office collections. If Vidya and Farhan do agree to act together, we are indeed looking forward to a very interesting story and chemistry.

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s hyped film Desi Boyz releases this week. Desi Boyz‘s leading ladies are Deepika Padukone and Chitrangda Singh. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Omi Vaidya among others. Here’s some part of the story and charaters of the film that we’d like to share with you:

STORY

The year is 2009. The world has been struck by the financial meltdown. But Nick Mathur and Jerry Patel don’t feel a thing in their comfortable pad in London. Nick feels smug with his successful investment banking job, the new bonus in his pocket and his beautiful fiancé, Radhika, by his side, while Jerry is so used to scraping the bottom of the barrel and living off his best buddy Nick, that recession feels like home. But life has a way of pulling the rug from under our feet. Nick and Jerry stop smiling the day Nick’s company decides to downsize and unceremoniously fires him. And Jerry is informed by the Social Services that his nephew Veer, whose local guardian Jerry is will be placed in a foster home unless he gets a steady job. Desi Boyz is the story of two men who are forced to do something extremely bizarre which gives them instant gratification but the repercussions tear them apart and its aftermath which tests everything including their friendship.

EK DEEWANA THA trailer: Will Prateik finally deliver a hit?

He arrived in Bollywood with a lot of fanfare in what was actually a glorified cameo in Abbas Tyrewala’s Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, but it has been downhill for Prateik ever since. Though he was pretty decent in Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat, he faced a lot of criticism for his act in Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan. His last film, My Friend Pinto, also sank without a trace and now Prateik is banking on Gautham Vasudev Menon’s romantic musical, Ek Deewana Tha. It is a remake of Menon’s superhit Tamil film, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, and it also happens to be Prateik’s first solo hero film. The music for Ek Deewana Tha has been scored by AR Rahman and that itself should ensure a decent opening for the film that also stars Amy Jackson and Manu Rishi Chadha. The initial response to the promo has not been very encouraging – almost everyone who has seen the Tamil version says that Prateik doesn’t fit the part of a passionate lover who is also an aspiring filmmaker. Expectations are high, thanks to the fact that both the Tamil and Telugu versions of the movie have been huge hits. It also marks the comeback of Menon to Bollywood after a long time; remember the R Madhavan-Dia Mirza-starrer Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein? While it is too early in the day to make any judgements about the film itself, we wish all the best for Prateik and newbie Amy. Do watch the trailer and let us know if you like it.

Chitrangda Singh: ‘Desi Boyz’ is like a debut film for me

The actor of intense films says she enjoyed doing a commercial film like Desi Boyz

Actor Chitrangada Singh, so far seen in offbeat roles, is excited about her first commercial film Desi Boyz. She plays a professor with dollops of oomph, and says she feels as though she is making her debut. Talking about the kind of work she has so far done, Chitrangda said: “Kaam ata tha, but ek jaisa kaam ata tha (Work came to me, but always the same kind of work)…People couldn’t imagine me doing a commercial movie.”

The dusky beauty was in conversation with trade analyst Komal Nahta on his show on ETC Bollywood Business. She was also in the capital Thursday, along with co-stars Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone, to share insights on the film with her fans. “Desi Boyz is kind of a debut for me, as I have been part of different kind of films so far. I was getting a bit bored of doing the same kind of cinema so I thought I should do something different. I had a great time working in my first commercial film,” she said.

Chitrangda made her Bollywood debut in 2003 with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, and was subsequently seen in films like Sorry Bhai! and Yeh Saali Zindagi among others. In Desi Boyz, Chitrangda plays Akshay’s love interest. Sharing her experience of working with the action star, she said: “Akshay is fantastic. He’s very encouraging, warm and very humble. He helped me out with tips during a dance sequence.”

We suggest if the two are planning to act together anytime soon, they should do a zom com. Swayamvar: This one has loads of potential – especially if it’s a female who has to choose a spouse. It can have everything – love, sex, deception, broken hearts, sad songs and a happy ending where love will triumph. Isn’t that great?

Shahrukh Khan has always maintained a very ‘loyal to my wife’ image in tinseltown, even as he romanced so many beauties on the big screen. In real life, we do appreciate Sona’s style and dressing sense, be it Indian or western wear, since she does have a fashion design background and has done some modelling. But onscreen, we want to see her in more from the global look book. Akshay Kumar, who is Sonakshi’s co-star in Joker, calls her “the most desi girl in the industry”. Was that just because she plays a village belle in Joker (again, after Dabangg)? Or maybe because Akki was promoting his next, Desi Boyz?Whatever the case, Sonakshi doesn’t seem to mind playing the truly trad-gal role. At the Lootera launch she said, “As an actor, I am doing a lot of other commercial films too. The main reason for me to do this film was that I had tears in my eyes after I heard the script. It is going to be my most challenging role ever. As an actor you need to keep doing different things….” We really don’t see the difference here, but we will let it be…for now. Who are you rooting for in this season of Bigg Boss?

To be frank, I have never watched any season of Bigg Boss because I don’t find anything interesting in it. I went into the house just because the money they offered to me was huge and there was no way I could say no to it. That apart, from my own experience, I can say that they only show the negative things that happen inside. During the season that featured me, we used to play kho-kho every evening and have lots of fun most of the time, but all they showed was the fights and hatred. Veena Malik used to recite to us verses from the Quran; she even learnt to chant the Gayatri mantra, but that was never shown. Even Dolly Bindra, though I wouldn’t call her my best friend, was shown in a bad light. She was abusive, yes, but like everyone else, she had positive points too, but nobody was interested in that. So yes, I don’t follow any TV soaps at all; thanks to my daughter, the only channel that plays all day in my home is Disney.

When Anushka’s peppy number (Jazba) in the movie went on air recently, the makers of the movie made it a point to highlight in bold letters that SHE IS THE ONE WHO CONS RICKY BAHL. Well, we can’t deny that they are definitely running on the right track when it comes to playing the promotional game. After all, it does create the much required curiosity amongst the masses. But if you ask people like us who thrive on cinema, we smell nothing but staleness right now, but maybe our opinions will change after watching the next set of promos!

Baby girl for Abhi-Ash

Mumbai, Nov 16 (IANS) A girl was born to star couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan at a private hospital here Wednesday morning.

'IT'S A GIRL!!,' Abhishek, 35, posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.com. He had recently said he wanted a daughter who looked like Aishwarya.

Proud grandfather Amitabh Bachchan too couldn't control his happiness and tweeted: 'I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl, A dada ji ... Ecstatic.'

Hospital sources said the delivery was normal and came a few minutes before 10 a.m. The Bachchan and Rai families were present for the momentous occasion.

Aishwarya, 38, developed labour pains around 4 a.m. and was taken to the labour room where the delivery took place after nearly six hours.

‘Rockstar’ box office collections rock: Rs. 64 crore in opening weekend

Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri’s Rockstar rakes in the millions

Eros International reports that Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri, and featuring chartbusting music by Oscar-winner AR Rahman, has done stellar business in its opening weekend grossing Rs. 64 crore. The Ashtavinayak Cine Vision co-production grossedRs. 53 crore in India (Rs 37 crore net) and Rs. 11 crore overseas. The film that released on 11.11.11 fortuitously collected Rs. 11.25 crore on its opening day.

As is customary, we must cede the floor to the Eros mouthpieces. Nandu Ahuja, Sr VP, Distribution, Eros International Media Ltd said, “Imtiaz Ali has once again captured the audiences’ imagination and coupled with Ranbir Kapoor’s exemplary performance, Rockstarhas opened to a superb response across the country, especially in the multiplexes. This is Ranbir’s biggest ever opening and elevates him to the league of superstars for sure. With colleges re-opening this week, we are looking at the film remaining steady at the box office through the week.

Not to be outdone, Pranab Kapadia, President – Distribution – Eros International added, “Eros International adds another feather to its cap with Rockstar which has been appreciated worldwide. It has taken a fantastic opening overseas and has fared very well in UK, USA and the Middle East.” According to Naaz Building insiders, this set of figures from Eros appears to be accurate, unlike the bloated numbers they released for the dud RA.One.
