Madhuri Dixit Takes a Stand for Animal Cause

Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit, appointed brand ambassador for a fund-raising project for conservation of Asian elephants and tigers, on Wednesday lamented that there is lack of adequate space for wild animals in India.

“This national heritage animal (tiger) in India is now seriously under threat since its habitat - forests - is disappearing at an alarming rate,” Madhuri told reporters in Mumbai.

“Many instances of human-elephant conflict have been reported in the country. This would not have happened if elephants had their own space and humans had not cut forests for farmlands, settlements, industries, roads or railways,” she said.

Gemfields, an emerald mining company of Zambia, has collaborated with World Land Trust and Wildlife Trust of India to launch 'Emeralds for Elephants', the project that raises funds for protection of Asian elephants and tigers.

Madhur Dixit is a popular Bollywood actress who is settled in the US after her wedding. She has expressed her wish to return to films but hasn’t been inspired to do so by any script she’s been offered so far.
