As the England batsman made their way out on day two, there were greeted by a huge cheer from the Lords crowd. The sun was out, play was starting on time and everyone was happy.
Everyone except Zaheer Khan that is. The Indian strike bowler was not on the field for the tourists, although the word was that he was aiming to bowl in the second innings.
After a rather scrappy knock yesterday, Kevin Pietersen began in a similar fashion as he was the subject of a big appeal from Ishant Sharma. The England batsman has certainly continued the trend of being a nervous starter in this match.
It was a big day for him though and with some decent batting conditions, he was keen to push on in this session. India were bowling well with good discipline and England had to rely on quick running between the wickets to force some momentum.
Pietersen showed flashes of his best form with a firm straight drive down the ground from the bowling of Praveen Kumar a refreshing change from constantly looking to score on the leg side.
