Indian pacer Sreesanth will play in place of the Indian spearhead, Zaheer Khan, and is expected to shine the way Sir Richard Hadlee did in Nottingham.
Indian star pacer Zaheer Khan is suffering from the Hamstring injury which caught him while bowling in the 1st Test at Lord’s. He was expected to make a quick recovery and lead the Indian bowling attack at Trent Bridge but this did not happen as he is still nursing his injury.
To have a competitive replacement, the Kerala Pacer, Sreesanth, was added in the squad for the 2nd Test.
Former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, compares Sreesanth with the legendary Kiwi bowler, Sir Richard Hadlee. Hadlee played very few seasons for Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge but produced some of his best figures here.
An upright seam position helps Sreesanth to generate swing much like the legendary Kiwi bowler Hadlee. Gavaskar stated that Sreesanth makes best use of this ability; he can make himself noticed even after playing fewer cricket matches.
Sunil Gavaskar added that having the same technique is not enough alone, to be successful in Nottingham,Sreesanth will have to keep calm and control his temperament the way Hadlee did.
Patience is the key according to Gavaskar which will pay off for Sreesanth. He said that Sreesanth can bowlkiller balls and surprise any batsman, and this is what he should do at Trent Bridge.
Indian bowlers can bring the wounded team back into the series. The former Indian coach, Gary Kirsten, backed his former team and said that India is more than capable of striking back in the second test.
Kirsten added that India is the best team of the world and should not be criticised after Lord’s test. He is confident that his former team will make a strong comeback in the 2nd Test, and may even win the series.
MS Dhoni, the Indian captain, besides losing the Lord’s test and having so many injuries in the team, has remained positive so far and is hopeful about the Nottingham test. The skipper is of the opinion that the Indian team has the potential to perform even under pressure and will try to prove that by coming back in the series.
